October 2022 Racing Update

The 2022 Road Racing season delivered some great improvements and results for many DWCC riders in various races and categories throughout the year.

DWCC fielded a strong team for the Gorey 3 Day for the first time in many years. Some bad luck didn't help but very promising for 2023 along with the possibility of entering other stage events (judging by the number of riders that have improved this year).

Eddie Brennan rode in the Rás Tailteann this year and Cleo Harvey rode in the Rás na mBan gaining valuable experience.

In open races Cleo Harvey collected many top placings during the year including several 1st places in Corkagh Park women's racing. Also the 1st woman in Foyle (3rd overall) and 1st woman in Mondello Park. Other excellent results included 2nd place in the national Criterium Championship and 2nd place in the Stephen Roche GP. Ronan Mc Donnell got a 1st in Mondello Park. Ben Delaney won a silver medal in the Leinster TT. Matthew Hayter had two A4 wins in July open races. Matt Jones rode in the Newry 3 day and finished 10th overall and 2nd A3. Matt also got first A3 rider in Derry.

Extended News
In August, Eammon Byrd got 3rd place in the Leinster Hill Climb Championships and in October he won a silver medal in the national hill climb championships. Eammon also won a bronze in the VETS over 50 track pursuit. There were plenty of good results and placings for other DWCC members racing in open races throughout the year (too many to mention).

In August Josh Murphy won the Master 60 championship.

VETS racing was very strong this year with several top 3 placements. 1st place wins included Gareth Robinson (x3), Ronan Mc Donald, Kevin Mc Feely & Martin Mc Gonagle. Peter Rice won medals for the Masters over 60s and Leinster track championships. In October Eammon Byrd won the Vets Hill Climb Championship.

This year we ran our Open Race early in the season and hosted one round of the Women’s racing series in Corkagh Park.

We managed to run a full club league this year. A massive thanks to club members volunteering each week to help with the marshalling. The club league would not have been possible without this level of support. The league required 152 marshalling duties to be assigned across all the events. In some cases, many volunteers covered multiple events.

Club League prizes will be presented at our Christmas function this year.

DWCC encourages all members to consider racing and give it a try. We are always looking for new racing members.

DWCC Committee is looking forward to planning and supporting the 2023 racing season and thanks to everyone for their support and help in 2022.
